Only a decade ago, ‘side hustle’ was not a common concept. From time to time, you would see it mentioned online, but it never seemed like something you needed to do. Now with the rise of the internet and accessibility to resources around the world, more and more people are adopting a side hustle to help their financial stability and reach their goals. Don’t be the person that wished they started a side hustle last year. Start making more money today.
When I ask people why they have not started, one of the most common reasons is they don’t have time. I understand you work all day, look after the kids, have household duties etc. Now some of you may genuinely not have enough time but research shows that the average person spends three hours and 15 minutes per day on their phone. Now obviously everyone needs their down time but what if you gave up just one hour?
The best thing about a side hustle is that anyone can give it a go and it can be tailored to you. It doesn’t matter what your educational background is or how well you come across; as long as you have the time, there is money to be made. If you have taught your children how to read the Quran, then maybe you can start teaching others online? Have a love for candles? Why not make your own and sell them? Passionate about cooking? Start selling your recipes or homemade food locally. The sky is the limit and we are all good at something!
It’s worth noting that sometimes, selling online is not always about selling something tangible. I know someone who made their first million by nurturing digital cats and selling them on. Another got to a really high level on a PlayStation game some may be familiar with, Call of Duty (COD), and then sold their profile for a large amount of money. Yes, it’s a thing!
The harsh reality is when you have only one income stream, your finances are at a higher risk if something happens to that job. You’re also more likely to dip into your credit card and the biggy is this: financial independence. Whether you are a stay-at-home mum or go to work, let’s face it, the money you make from your main income is likely to go towards supporting the household. With a side income, the door of opportunity opens for treats, investing and establishing a passive income stream (money which comes without actively doing anything).
There is a lot of room in the online space for new side hustlers, but why let someone else get a head-start on earning money that you could be making instead? The people who have already started are already making headway with paying off their debt, saving for retirement, and diversifying their income. Honestly, the hardest part is getting started. There are so many side hustle ideas out there, and all it takes is finding the one that you’re interested in, and one that fits around your own situation.
Get googling mamas and inshallah you will be granted with success!
I have known people who ended up giving up their careers for their successful side hustles, sometimes it can start off as a hobby and take on a life of its own.
