I totally love summer and I look forward to it the whole year.
Ok it can be a bit hit and miss in the UK but I love it nonetheless. For me it’s about the sunshine and how it lifts my mood as soon as I wake up. I just feel so energetic and happy because we have longer daylight hours. The kids have no school and enjoy being outside in the pool, when I actually manage to pump it. I love that we get to go on picnics with friends in the park and walks in the evenings. Now that’s the nice parts of the summer but being a hijabi in the hot weather is a different thing altogether.
With the bank holiday on the horizon and Covid rising alongside restrictions lifting (thanks Boris!) whether you are choosing to spend the weekend with friends and family or just keeping to your own household.
Here are just a few funny things that are actually quite annoying during the summer months for a hijabi!
They include –
People asking, are you not hot wearing that scarf and having to say, no I am fine even though the sweat is dripping from your face.
As soon as you wear your new summer skirt, your thighs start fighting with each other and it quickly turns into the war of the thighs, with bad chub rub. I am sure you know what that is, ouch!
Being out and suddenly losing your hijab pin and having to tuck your scarf in every second while wiping sweat off your face.
Dripping with sweat especially under your bra and having sweat patches on your back even though you’re wearing double layers.
Scarf tan lines, you look like the tango advert man when you take your scarf off.
Paying an extortionate amount to have your hair done for a wedding and then you sweat so much under your hijab before you get there, that it looks like your 3year old styled it.
Having to see shirtless men on the street who think they look thin but in fact it’s just flabby white flesh. Lower your gaze people for your own health!
Sitting on the beach watching everyone else in their swimming gear while you’re in a dress boiling.
Finding beautiful summer dresses with short sleeves, meaning you have to wear a top under it and get even hotter.
Having a face like a tomato from the heat but pretending your fine and not roasting like a chicken.
Tucking your baby hairs back into your scarf, which keep sticking out of your sweaty forehead.
Getting pitying looks from people and having to pretend you’re not too hot when you’re actually suffocating.
Seeing people wearing lovely summer hats. Trouble is on top of a scarf, they just look ugly, make you feel hotter and leave your hair swimming in sweat.
Wearing a white scarf is a big No, because the tiniest amount of make-up will melt and show on it because of the heat.
Whenever you’re out shopping the first thing you do is make a beeline for the ac vent in the shop to cool down.
But you know what even with all these annoying things, I still love summer and feel blessed to be able wear the Hijab.
Let me know what funny things annoy you in the summer.
