It’s our time to shine! Recently, modest fashion trends on the app TikTok have been going viral as more of the younger generation are turning modest clothing into gorgeous outfits.
Modest fashion has unintentionally become a modern-day fashion trend. As far as I can remember, tight clothing had been the in-thing in the fashion world, but the trend now is to let ‘loose’!

Many people have turned wide-leg jeans, loose t-shirts and long coats into gorgeous outfits. Not only that, dresses and layering is actually a thing now.

With the rise of social media, dressing modestly and chicly is a lot easier as we can now get inspiration from others who we can actually identify with and relate to. More clothing lines have also taken the initiative to add modest ranges to their collections as well as creating longer, looser clothes that fit well. This means we can cut back on buying clothes that are three times our size because they are so short, and actually go for something which has the perfect modest fit.

Hijabi models such as Halima Aden have also been making headlines for walking on catwalk shows and appearing on magazine covers. This encouraged many clothing lines to include modest-friendly outfits into their range. I’m in total awe that finding something to wear for any occasion is so easy, in-store or online and it is clear that modest fashion looks like it’s here to stay within the mainstream fashion industry!
Here are some modest tips next time you’re shopping for clothes.
- Next time you’re looking for a new shirt, shop in the dress section! For example ‘t-shirt’ dresses are just long t-shirts or check out the shirt or blazer-dresses section.
- Layering is one of the easiest hacks. Next time you buy a short jumper, wear a long shirt underneath.
And here are some of the stores where you can shop online:
- Missguided have just released a modest clothing range!
- Modanisa
- Zara (online and instore)
- Shein
