- Go to Hajj
Once you have kids, it will be near impossible. You can’t take them with you and will have to wait years so that you can leave them with grandparents.
2. Holy sites
Go to every holy site you have ever wanted to visit. More often than not, such places are not kid friendly.
3. Go on a girl’s holiday
Go with your sister or friends or both. Once kids come along travelling alone will be a thing of the past. Travelling with them will be a logistical challenge at best.
4. Go on a long-haul holiday
Visit somewhere across the other side of the world. Like Australia, Japan or the Maldives. Long haul flights will be a nightmare with kids, frankly any flights will be hard, so do it now.
5. Get your finances in order
Not only are kids expensive but you will think everything is so cute and will buy everything under the sun for them.
6. Splurge on yourself
Buy that expensive bag or dress you always wanted, once kids come, mum guilt sets in and you will not spend that much on yourself.
7. Face one of your biggest fears
Now that could be skydiving or jumping from a parachute. Whatever it maybe, do it while you can.
8. Go to a theme park
Take your bravest girlfriends and go on the fastest roller coaster at the theme park. Once you have kids, all you will see is baby rides and Peppa Pig World. You will also find that you are likely to end up being the designated bag holder once you have kids and be more worried about whether they have ate anything in the day, are too tired or how to entertain them in the never-ending queue.
9. Do a course
Go do that art or baking course you have always wanted to do. You won’t be bothered to arrange babysitting and a creche for hobbies once you have children. Trust me!
10. Go see the Northern Lights
Visit Tromso, Norway. The city is in the heart of the aurora zone and the best place to see the Northern lights.
11. Ride a camel
Visit Morocco or Dubai and ride a camel across a sandy desert. This will only be something you see in movies when you have kids.
12. Buy a convertible sports car
Buy any convertible while you can. It won’t have quite the same vibe if you have to strap a car seat in the back and then your next time window for doing so will be when the kids are grown up. It will feel good but you are likely to make the most out of it now!
13. Visit the Amazon Rainforest
A once in a life time experience and you will have tales to tell your kids when they are older.
14. Move back to be near parents
You need all the help you can get when the little darlings come along and grandparents will love being with them. It is also free, so win win.
15. Save Money
Try your best to save a little bit of money so that you can afford a childminder or nursery when it all gets too much.
16. Sleep without an alarm clock
Sleep in as often as possible, soon that will be something you only see in dreams.
17. Go to the cinema
Once kids come along, it’s all cartoon films and spilled popcorn.
18. Drink hot coffee
Drinking hot coffee will be a thing of the past when you have kids. They have an inner sensor that tells them you are about to have one. Therefore, they will cry, need a nappy change or require a feed when they know you are about to have one.
19. Eat whatever you fancy
Eat a whole packet of chocolate chip cookies without hiding it. Then go on to have snacks and fizzy drinks, all without sharing or hiding it from anyone. Enjoy it while you can as soon you will be hiding everything from the kids.
20. Clean up
Clean your house. Sit and watch it stay clean for more than a few minutes.
21. Have afternoon tea
Afternoon tea is so lovely, calm and peaceful. Words you will not hear for a long time, so book yourself afternoon tea at the Ritz and enjoy.
22. A romantic trip away
Treat yourself and your husband to a trip to somewhere romantic. Enjoy each others company and soak it all in. Soon your conversations will be all about your child’s bowel movements and sleep patterns!
23. Wear your clothes
Wear all your expensive clothes as much as you can. Soon they will either not fit or have baby sick on the shoulders.
24. Appreciate the little things
Enjoy going to the toilet, having a bath and getting dressed all by yourself. Soon your kids will either get in with you or sit there watching you.
25. Eat out at your favourite restaurant
You will soon learn that take away is your only option, so eat at your favourite restaurant as much as you can. Going to a restaurant with kids is more like a game of Jumanji with fighting, crying and running off so book that restaurant now.
I hope you tick as many of these off your list as you can before you have kids. It goes without saying that the constant vigilance, sleepless nights and constant worry are all worth it when you see your little angels face. For all the mamas reading this I’m sure you can relate to at least a few! What would you have done before having kids if you could go back in time? We would love to know!
